In evaluation and selection of news, there are several ways to choose event becomes news. First is, evaluating news of significance. The newsman must decide which events and information are of primary importance to a large proportion of the people. The news “Police Shoot Dead Russian After Violent Robbery in Bali” contains the primary importance to large of Indonesian people especially Balinese people. During the search for robbers that happened in Bali, news was obviously important to the people of Bali. The reason behind is the Balinese people are waiting for who the perpetrators behind the violent robbery. 

Second, select news of interest. In order to select news of interest, the newsman must know what people want out of news and why they prefer one kind of news fare to another. The newsman must again recognize the importance of the two broad grouping of news (hard news, primarily news of significance and entertaiment , or soft news, primarily news of human interest). In order to understand the basic requirements or news selection, it is necessary to examine consumer response to “hard” and “soft” news.  The news that we discuss was included in hard news because it reported criminal news that had previously occurred which subsequently triggered the shooting of the violent robbery. The term of hard news usually refers to news that is very serious. The shooting of violent robbery gives serious impacts to the community in Bali. 

Third, Originality of news. A new must had oddity, pathos and suspense. These elements are exist in the news that we discuss. It shows us how a newsman conveys his opinion through that event “Shooting of Violent Robbery”. Then he herds audience to think about event that happen in Bali. The news which had originality, warmth, intrinsic worth as “entertainment”. But when newsmen kept repeating it because “if it was good yesterday, it’s good today” the story lost all freshness and became  progressively more hackneyed and banal.

Fourth, the responsibility for news decisions. In giving responsibility for news decision, news worker should be gifted with intellegence and perception and endowed with special character traits that give him a keen sense of curiosity. In news “Shooting of Violent Robbery”, a newsman has responsibility on reports the event based on the truth that occurred. How many of the perpetrators were shoot, how many were still running away and what happened before this event which underlies the shooting. Everything must be reported by responsibility of news worker.

Fifth, selecting stories with human interests. The news that we discuss is classified as criminal news. Because crime news is often important and almost always full of human interest, newspapers and online media have sometimes laid undue emphasis on lawbreaking. 

So, an event will be a good news if it has gone through several stages of evaluation and selection based on the elements above. In the end, I conclude that news from Jakarta Post by title “Police Shoot Dead Russian After Violent Robbery in Bali” that was published on Friday, March 22, 2019 fulfill the elements in evaluation and selection news.
